OPEN EYES AND ANXIOUS TEETH

OPENING APRIL 11 FROM 7-10

BLUE SPACE GALLERY (GUERRERO AT 18TH)

An installation of new works by David Kasprzak and Brandon dealing with the rewards and beatings that San Francisco has dealt out in the past few years. The works are of a more narrative tone; interacting directly with the city as more of an old friend that occasionally beats you up than a coastal grid of streets and buildings.

The show will run from April 11 to May 2.
Gallery Hours: Thurs- Sun  12-5

HARE AND THE HOUNDS

Curators: David Kasprzak and Michael McConnell

Dates: March 8/2008- March 23/2008
            Art Hunt: March 8th 12- 5pm

Show: Up to 50 artists will hang their art within the gallery. Accompanying this piece they will produce a map that leads the buyer of the map to another work of art. The art must be hidden in the mission (for this show the mission is defined as: the area inside South Van Ness, 24th Street, Dolores*, and 16th Street) and once found by the buyer will be returned to the gallery to hang with the gallery piece for the duration of the show.

Gallery Art: This piece of artwork will be hung in the gallery prior to the “hunt” and is used as an example of the artists work. The artist will provide the price of the piece. This piece must be any size up to 24” x 24”

The Map: The artist will create an artistic map or set of clues that will lead to the location of the second piece of art. The artist will determine the cost of the map. This will allow the artist to factor in problems that may occur while locating the art. For example, if the artist is choosing to hang the map in a non-secure place we suggest the cost be lower in case some unknowing person finds the art before the map holder. The map in conjunction with the hidden piece is in fact the work of art.

The Scavenger Art: This piece will be found by the buyer of the map, and returned to the gallery for the opening and duration of the show.

Art Drop-off: The Gallery piece can be dropped off at Fayes (18th and Guerrero) during the week of February 22nd- Feb 26th. Once collected these works will be hung at the gallery during the week of March 3rd. Maps if complete can also be dropped of at this time. Otherwise Artists will drop off maps and hang their “hidden” work at 11am on March 8th

*Dolores Park Included

I know this sounds a little confusing so here it is again broken down:

* 2 pieces of artwork

* 1 map

* 1 piece will hang in the gallery

* 1 piece you will hide within the mission

* the map will be directions to find the piece you hid (directions are open to your own

 interpretation)

* drop off piece to hang in the gallery by March 2nd at Fayes Video (18th and Guerrero)

* show up  March 8th at 11 with your map in hand and your 2nd piece hidden

If you would like to participate as an artist and have not spoken with Mike or myself please email me so I can keep a running list of artists. Also any questions should be emailed to me

This will be a great opportunity to make a little extra cash, have your work seen by many, and support a new local gallery. Thank you for your participation and have fun!

David

SF TEAM DRAW/ SUN MAY 27/ DOLORES PARK/ NOON-?

Remember "Year Book Day"? Well this is sort of the Mission District's version of year book day! Show up with a blank sketch book and whatever you like to draw with. Walk around meet some new people, trade off sketck books, and leave at the end of the day with a bunch of new friends and a full sketch book. No one is looking for masterpieces! These are sketch books. Feel free to draw in whatever style and medium you want. Get dirty, strange , and perverse with your drawings if you want. If this sounds fun come to Dolores Park, bring some food and drinks, rock that ghetto blaster, and draw! Dogs welcome too!

For any questions email david@youngtompkins.com

Once again it's been a while since I updated, but I have a good excuse. I went back East for a while to visit friends and to have a show at the SkyLab. Below are some photos from the show. They were kindly taken by Brooke Lavalley, and Doug Johnston wrote the show description.

While I was away Grant Lavalley was here in SF doing some sick drawings. You can see those below as well.

Thanks and keep sending us stuff!

David
