HARE AND THE HOUNDS II
Call to Artists:
>
> We are looking for artists to participate in upcoming show:
> Hare and the Hounds 2. The shows concept is based on a
> scavenger hunt that allows viewers to interact with their
> purchases.
>
> HARE AND THE HOUNDS 2
>
> Curators: David Kasprzak and Michael McConnell
>
> Dates: May 9th 2009 - ???
> Art Hunt:
> Saturday May 16th 2009 12- 5pm
>
>
> Show: Up to 75 artists will hang their art within the 18
> reasons Gallery (18reasons.org) Accompanying this piece they
> will produce a map that leads the buyer of the map to
> another work of art. The art must be hidden in the mission
> (for this show the mission is defined as: the area inside
> South Van Ness, 24th Street, Dolores*, and 16th Street) and
> once found by the buyer will be returned to the gallery to
> hang with the gallery piece for the duration of the show.
>
> Gallery Art: This piece of artwork will be hung in the
> gallery prior to the “hunt” and is used as an example of
> the artists work. The artist will provide the price of the
> piece. This piece must be 8” x 10”, either orientation.
> Please frame your work (cheap frames can be found at Ikea or
> Walgreens), and if your work is 3D please make sure it fits
> into an 8" x 10" space.
>
> The Map: The artist will create an artistic map or set of
> clues that will lead to the location of the second piece of
> art. The artist will determine the cost of the map (up to
> $100). This will allow the artist to factor in problems that
> may occur while locating the art. For example, if the artist
> is choosing to hang the map in a non-secure place we suggest
> the cost be lower in case some unknowing person finds the
> art before the map holder. The map in conjunction with the
> hidden piece is in fact the work of art.
>
> The Scavenger Art: This piece will be found by the buyer of
> the map, and returned to the gallery for the opening and
> duration of the show.

SF TEAM DRAW/ SUN MAY 27/ DOLORES PARK/ NOON-?
Remember "Year Book Day"? Well this is sort of the Mission District's version of year book day! Show up with a blank sketch book and whatever you like to draw with. Walk around meet some new people, trade off sketck books, and leave at the end of the day with a bunch of new friends and a full sketch book. No one is looking for masterpieces! These are sketch books. Feel free to draw in whatever style and medium you want. Get dirty, strange , and perverse with your drawings if you want. If this sounds fun come to Dolores Park, bring some food and drinks, rock that ghetto blaster, and draw! Dogs welcome too!
For any questions email david@youngtompkins.com

Once again it's been a while since I updated, but I have a good excuse. I went back East for a while to visit friends and to have a show at the SkyLab. Below are some photos from the show. They were kindly taken by Brooke Lavalley, and Doug Johnston wrote the show description.
While I was away Grant Lavalley was here in SF doing some sick drawings. You can see those below as well.
Thanks and keep sending us stuff!
David
